Cynthia Erivo has been snatching wigs left and right as Celie in The Color Purple, at the Bernard Jacobs Theater, for a couple months now.
She’s meeting us off stage in an intimate concert setting and Dear God!! We couldn’t be more excited.
Cynthia, along with Joaquina Kalukango, who plays Nettie in The Color Purple, will be singing the songs of Stephen Sondheim as part of The Classic Stage Company’s The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim gala on March 14 at The Lincoln Center.
The concert will be directed by Tony winner, John Doyle, who is also the director of The Color Purple. Cheers to him, as he will become The Classic Stage Company’s new artistic director this July.
The ensemble includes Phoenix Best, Carrie Compere, Diana DiMarzio, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Maggie Lakis, Emily Mechler, Jane Pfitch, Carla R. Stewart, Rema Webb, Elisa Winter and Jessica Wright.
The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim gala will start with cocktails at 6 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $50, but let it be known that there’s a lot up at stake. Aside from a night full of hits from Sondheim’s Follies, Gypsy, A Little Night Music, West Side Story, and Passion, there’s a benefit raffle— and honey, the prize is a trip for two to Italy. #WERK
