Saint Joan Starring Condola Rashad Now In Previews on Broadway

Saint Joan starring Condola Rashad is now playing Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theater. The show began previews April 3rd, 2018, and have an Opening Night set for April 25, 2018. The show is scheduled to run for a limited time through June 10, 2018.

The play written by Bernard Shaw is set in 15th century France, the play recounts the story of a peasant girl who claimed to hear the voices of saints directing her to help the Dauphin of France drive the English out of the country. While she was successful in battle, she was ultimately betrayed and tried for heresy.

Cast includes Walter Bobbie, Adam Chanler-Berat, Jack Davenport, John Glover, Patrick Page, Daniel Sunjata, Maurice Jones, Russell G. Jones, Max Gordon Moore, Matthew Saldivar, Robert Stanton, Lou Sumrall, Tony Carlin, Ben Horner, Mandi Masden, Howard W. Overshown, Michael Rudko, RJ Vaillancourt.

Directed by Dan Sullivan with Scott Pask (scenic design), Obadiah Eaves (sound design), Justin Townsend (lighting design), Jane Greenwood (costume design), Christopher Ash (projections), Tom Watson (hair & wig design), Bill Frisell (music), Tommy Kurzman(makeup), Deborah Hect (dialect coach), & Thomas Schall (weapons).

Many of the performers have graced Manhattan Theatre Club’s stages before. Rashad’s performance in MTC’s Off-Broadway production of Ruined was her first professional role after graduating college. Previously it was announced that three-time Tony nominee Cond ola Rashad would star on Broadway in Saint Joan, playing the iconic role of “Joan of Arc.” However, it was the first look photo, released this weekend by Manhattan Theatre Club, that caused quite the stir.

MCC Theater presents the first show in their new home on 52nd street. It’s the New York Premiere of The Light by Loy A. Webb and directed by Logan Vaughn.

Broadway Black had the chance to meet with the entire company. The cast of The Light features Drama Desk Award winner McKinley Belcher III and Mandi Masden.

Not every marriage proposal goes as planned. Loy A. Webb’s The Light introduces us to Rashad and Genesis on what should be one of the happiest days of their lives, but their joy quickly unravels when ground-shifting accusations from the past resurface in this gripping two-character drama. Can their relationship survive the growing divide between them over who- and what – to believe? Directed by Logan Vaughn, The Light is a reckoning that unfolds in real-time and peels away the layers of truth, doubt, pain, and ultimately the power of love.

The Light currently in previews officially opens February 10, 2019, and runs thru March 17, 2019

The creative team includes scenic design by Kimie Nishikawa, costume design by Emilio Sosa, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Elisheba Ittoop.
