Looks like someone else has gotten the Broadway bug bite. Actor and producer Nick Cannon revealed his big plans for the comedy improv show, Wild ‘n Out. From the small screen to the Great White Way, Cannon intends to take his show to new heights.
The comedy show features a group of comedians and celebrity guests who, through a series of games improvisation and challenges, battle each other on teams. Broadway.com describes it as, “Hamilton‘s “Cabinet Battle” scenes, but with more “Yo Mama” jokes.”
The show started in 2005, running for two years on MTV, then took a six-year hiatus. It revived and moved to MTV2, and then returned to MTV for its eighth season. Last year, the cast embarked on a comedy tour, visiting college campuses around the US.
Recently, the former America’s Got Talent host told Entertainment Weekly, “There’s [sic] some super-duper talented people on my show that need that theatre experience, so we’re taking Wild ‘n Out to Broadway.”
“I was inspired by so many different things that’s [sic] going on on Broadway right now—the energy, the talent,” he added,” I’ve always been inspired by the theatre when it comes to Wild ‘n Out.“
Over the course of eight seasons, the show has seen its fair share of celebrity guests including Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Chrissy Teigen, Snoop Dogg, Zendaya, and Shaquille O’Neal. Cannon didn’t mention when Wild ‘n Out would make its Broadway debut and who, of the current diverse cast, which has formerly included comedians such as Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson and Hamilton’s Taran Killam, would join him.
This leaves room for questions, including what will happen to the television show once it goes to Broadway and if the structure would be the same as on the small screen. No matter the cast or structure of the show, we’re intrigued to see Wild ‘n Out on Broadway.
