On The Road Again: Todrick Hall Re-Launches Straight Outta Oz Tour

After putting up his heels and ending his run as “Lola” in the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots, YouTube star Todrick Hall heads back to Oz. Only this time, the yellow brick road stretches far beyond our imagination, easing on down (wait…wrong musical!) North America: “Oz Angeles,” Dallas, and more.

Hall brings his most inventive* project, Straight Outta Oz, back to life in a staged concert tour. This work originally debuted as a 57-minute YouTube visual album, á la Beyoncé’s Lemonade, and featured Amber Riley, Shanice Williams, Jordin Sparks, Wayne Brady, Nicole Scherzinger, and more.

Endearing, introspective, and full of life’s lessons, Oz tells a coming of age story, following a young Todrick growing up in Texas and the fight he endured to learn the ropes of the Hollywood industry after moving to LA. Later, he took the show out on the road in 2016.

Hall made his Broadway debut in the original production of The Color Purple. He initially rose to fame when he auditioned for the ninth season of American Idol, making it to the semi-finals. Since then, he’s created countless YouTube parodies and music videos, earning over 2 million subscribers. Eventually, this success led to his own short-lived MTV show, Todrick.

Over the years, we’ve seen Hall’s craft grow. And what we’re further willing to bet is there’s no stopping his creativity. We wish him nothing but the best as he continues to put out honest, relatable, and down-right fresh content. Do you think Straight Outta Oz has potential as a Broadway show? * inventive: HONEY. He. Had. A. Budg-et. Faces beat. Costumes sharp. All of this, on top of the normal brilliance in lyrics and overall storytelling.
