President Obama Talks Hamilton Musical With Jon Stewart

Hamilton, the new musical by Tony Award Winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), is gaining new fans everyday, including President Barack Obama. Last week, the President attended a preview matinee of the production and, later backstage at “The Daily Show,” told host Jon Stewart that the performance was “Phenomenal!” The President went on to remind Stewart that Lin-Manuel Miranda performed what would be the opening number of the piece 5 years ago at the White House while the musical was still in the early stages of development.

Hamilton, the musical about writer and revolutionary Alexander Hamilton, continues to break theater barriers in concept, casting, and storytelling. bringing fresh and desperately needed life to the Broadway stage. We previously broached the notion of “non-traditional” casting becoming traditional, and it is a conversation that needs to continue. It is good to know that this is being appreciated by not only the artistic community, but the President himself.
