PRAISE REPORT! Well folks the pie is out the oven. 🥧 I will be staying in London to be apart of the Original West End cast of @waitressmusical and I am playing BECKY originally played by @kealasettle who’s body my head is attached to. 🤣 Love you sis! So excited to be staying on the West End playing another lead role and to be playing opposite @katharinemcphee gah! I see some Smash remixes in our future. So y’all come get your tickets to @dreamgirlsldn last weeks then get your tickets to @waitresslondon that will be right across the street at the Adelphi! Thanks to @sarabareilles and Diane Paulus for this opportunity. I have been in love with this show and this music for awhile. And you guys will love it too. . . . Alright Testimony Time! I actually auditioned for Waitress for Broadway for this same role 2 years ago. I was right to the very end. But unfortunately I didn’t get it. A few weeks later I got the call to come do Dreamgirls in London. And now look how it all came right back around. Swipe to the next picture and you can see I manifested getting this role 2 years ago. I wrote it down and claimed it. And if you read carefully I never specified “Broadway”. Had no idea it would be on the West End. I’m telling y’all God has a bigger plan for you than you can even imagine for yourself. Write the vision make it plan. There is power in writing your goals down and believing in them. 🙏🏾LOOK AT GOD!! #SugarButterJesus 🥧 #effietobecky #movingacrossthestreet #orderup 📷: @mtas_official (you called it 😉)

When Waitress on Broadway was initially auditioning for the role of Becky two years ago, Marisha was one of the final people in callbacks for the show.  The role ultimately went to Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman, Hands on a Hardbody). A few weeks later she Wallace received the call that would take her from Broadway to the West End for Dreamgirls.

Now after playing her dream role, Waitress has resurfaced, and she will stay in London to star in the West End production. Alongside Katharine McPhee and Laura Baldwin, Marisha will be ‘Opening Up’ the diner in London’s Adelphi Theatre. Previews start February 8th before an official March 7th opening.

The U.S. Postal Service honored iconic entertainer Gregory Hines with a Black Heritage Series stamp in a ceremony on January 28th. As the 42nd entry in the series, the stamp featuring a 1988 photo of a smiling Hines is now available at Post Offices and usps.com.

At the ceremony Tony Award winner Savion Glover talked about the role Hines played in elevating tap into an art form and the value of his work. Joining him in the celebration were Maurice Hines, actor, dancer, choreographer, and Hines’ brother; Daria Hines, actress, costume designer, and Hines’ daughter; dancers Chloe and Maud Arnold; Tony Waag, the American Tap Dance Foundation’s artistic director, and tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith.

“I don’t exist without this man,” said Glover, “These young people that you see, they aren’t born without this. We are not here today without this.”

The Chief Postal Inspector, Gary Barksdale, who led the ceremony, said “Gregory Hines was an extraordinary artist in every sense of the word. This Forever stamp pays tribute to his life and career as an actor, singer and most importantly, as a performer whose unique style of tap dancing injected new artistry and excitement into a traditional American form.”

Gregory Hines’ Broadway credits include Eubie!, Sophisticated Ladies, & Comin’ Uptown,  all of which garnered him Tony Award nominations. He became a Tony Award winner for his starring role in “Jelly’s Last Jam” in 1992. In 2003 he passed away at 57 years old from cancer.
