Wish granted! After performing in his Tony-winning role of Genie in Broadway’s Aladdin for almost three years, James Monroe Iglehart will join the Broadway cast of Hamilton in mid-April, as announced by producer Jeffrey Seller. Iglehart will portray the dual parts of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, the parts which earned first-timer Daveed Diggs a Tony. Seth Stewart currently stars in the role.

Iglehart made his Broadway debut as a replacement in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee before starring in Memphis. He earned a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for his high-energy, eccentric performance as Genie in 2014. Current Genie standby Major Attaway takes over the part full time beginning February 21 after Iglehart’s February 19 departure.

The current Broadway company stars Javier Mūnoz as Alexander Hamilton, Brandon Victor Dixon as Aaron Burr, Lexi Lawson as Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, Mandy Gonzalez as Angelica Schuyler, Bryan Terrell Clark as George Washington, Jordan Fisher as John Laurens and Phillip Schuyler, Alysha Deslorieux as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, and J. Quinton Johnson as Hercules Mulligan and James Madison. “Saturday Night Live” star Taran Killam begins performances tonight as King George III.

Hamilton plays at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, with a Chicago company at the PrivateBank Theatre, and a national tour beginning March 2017 at the SHN Orpheum Theatre.
