Samira Wiley jumps from the small screen back to the theater universe with a starring role in the world premiere of Daphne’s Dive which will run April 26th – June 12th at the Signature Theater.

Wiley, who most people know as Poussey Washington in the hilarious “Orange Is the New Black”, will play Ruby in a play written by Quiara Alegria Hudes who won a Pulitzer for Drama in 2012 with the play Water By The Spoonful. Daphne’s will be directed by Thomas Kail of Hamilton fame.

Here is a little about the play from the Signature website:

“Daphne’s Dive is a cheap corner bar in North Philly where Daphne and her vibrant, eclectic regulars drink to art, politics, and life. As Daphne’s adopted daughter, very different from her reserved and pragmatic mother, grows up, this unconventional family is forced to confront who’s an insider, who’s an outsider, and the challenge of opening your heart to strangers.”

Wiley is a graduate of Julliard and hit the stage with Love’s Labor’s Lost at the Public before landing the role coveted role of Poussey in OITNB. Since then Wiley has been a media sensation gracing the covers of magazines and winning a SAG award for her work on OITNB. Her castmate Danielle Brooks went to the Great White Way playing Sophia in The Color Purple revival on Broadway.

Rounding out the Daphne’s cast is the incredible Daphne Rubin-Vega who mesmerized us in the original cast of Rent as well as many other productions.  For tickets to Daphne’s Dive click here.
