Tony award winning choreographer, Savion Glover is celebrating 32 years in the business. Thirty.. plus two!? Thirty. Two. I could have sworn Savion was 32! I guess it’s true what they say, black doesn’t crack; and neither does the ambition and talent of this national treasure.
Glover will present his solo show at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square on Wednesday August 17, 2016.
Most recently, Glover’s work was showcased in the show nearest and dearest to our hearts this season, Shuffle Along, for which he was nominated for a Tony and won a Drama Desk Award.
We can look forward to his continuance in advocacy for the art form of tap dance, as he educates and lets us in to his past experiences with Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk in “Noise/Funk- 20 Years Later” on October 20.
Thirty two years in the game is truly a blessing. Glover has reached legend status, but that journey certainly was not overnight. In 1983, Glover made his broadway debut as Willie in The Tap Dance Kid. He went on to perform in Black and Blue and Jelly’s Last Jam. He choreographed and starred in Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk, for which he won the 1996 Tony for best choreography. Notable film credits include: Spike Lee’s “Bamboozled” and the acclaimed Academy Award Winning 2006 Warner Brothers release of “Happy Feet” and “Happy Feet 2”. Yes, he choreographed those penguins!
